Come spend a week immersed in contemporary dance and study with University of Illinois faculty artists! This weeklong intensive offers daily classes in contemporary technique and ballet, along with classes in jazz, tap, yoga, tai chi, improvisation, conditioning, anatomy, and viewing dance. Focusing on understanding and experiencing your body on a new level, you will take three to four classes daily. You will also have the opportunity to rehearse for a new work being created specifically for the dancers at the workshop. Evening activities include: campus tours, movies, games, and swimming. The week ends with an informal, public performance of class work as well as the premiere of the dances created during the week.

Program Directors

Linda Lehovec
Linda Lehovec, Associate Professor and BFA Director at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, holds a BFA from The Juilliard School and an MFA from UIUC. Linda's primary areas of interest and expertise are the teaching of ballet and modern technique, as well as incorporating yoga and conditioning into dance training. Her goal in teaching is to assist her students to develop a clearer understanding of their bodies, allowing them to dance with more strength, ease, clarity, and fluidity. Linda is an active choreographer and performer. Since moving to Illinois, she has danced in the works of contemporary choreographers Joe Goode, Ralph Lemon, Stephen Koester, Bill Young, Sara Hook and David Parker. Linda has performed her own work in Seattle, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Chicago, Canada, and Korea. Linda has been awarded two Choreographic Fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council and has been a guest teacher at numerous colleges, universities, and high school programs throughout the US. This is her 4th summer as director of the U of I Summer Dance Intensive.
