Jon Monastero, an accomplished actor, is a founding member of the critically acclaimed clown show, Ten West. He has clowned and performed at venues across North America including the Mark Taper Forum, Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl and the Center Theater Group as well as several regional theaters. Jon was awarded the 2008 Ticketholder Award for Special Events and Performance for his skill in commedia dell'arte and his commedia dell'Arte troupe I Zanni was a recent addition to the Orange County Performing Art's Center's Arts Teach artist roster. He is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and has taught or given workshops in clowning and commedia dell'arte at California Institute of the Arts, Pepperdine College, USC, Idyllwild Arts Academy, Improv Oympic, Rio Hondo College and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. He is a big believer that the traditions of clown and commedia dell'arte continue to inform, impact and inspire actors today. Clown and commedia training enlivens and frees the performer to explore a wild, improvisational world while demanding honesty and commitment unlike that experienced in other approaches to performance. It addresses the human spirit and its liberation through the imagination, fantasy and atmosphere of play. Relativity/LA Center Studios Arts Camp 2010 is excited to have Jon join its faculty. He speaks fluent Italian, can talk your ear off about the Civil War and is wicked good at pratfalls and balloon animals!
