"Thank you for having this program. There are so few available. The staff was amazing and very caring. They went above expectations when it came to individual needs... " br>- George Washington University - Musical Theater parent
"Without USPA and all of their help, I really don't believe that I would have been accepted into The Tisch School of the Arts at NYU (my first choice college)." br>- Alex Roesler
"It was an amazing experience. I learned a lot about the college theatre audition process. And it made me less nervous for them. I applied for 9 colleges and had to audition for all of them, but the workshop prepared me mentally and physically." br> - Anna (College Audition Boot Camp Student)
The Relativity/LA Center Studios Arts camp is excited to add to its roster of faculty excellence is Relativity/LA Center Studios TFT faculty member, Assistant Professor of Interactive Animation, Lynn Okimura. As many members of the professional community she is an alumnus of the Relativity/LA Center Studios School of Theater Film and Television where she garnered multiple awards including the industry selected Spotlight Award in Animation. Before returning to Relativity/LA Center Studios to teach, Lynn's creative work was in flash and 2D animation for mobile content and music videos and in many mediums including Disney TV Animation, and Interactive and software companies. Her passion for young people is very strong as she created and instructed an animation course and curriculum for youth through the nationally recognized STAR INC non profit organization. That curriculum has burgeoned into the staple of their after school enrichment program reaching students of all economic backgrounds. She is always working on something and her independent projects have garnered awards and have shown at film festivals throughout the world including The Hawaii International Film Festival, The San Diego Asian American Film Festival, The Los Angeles Visual Communication Film Festival, Seattle's Bumbershoot Arts Festival, and New York's Animation Block Party. We are excited to have Lynn Okimura carry on the excellence of our summer animation program established by Dug Ward of our Animation Workshop.
At the heart of any great animated movie is a story. The great storytellers of animation, beginning with Disney, used simple pen and paper. With the advent of the computer, the animator now has another tool to use in telling a story. Based upon the precepts of traditional animation, the Computer Animation Camp will allow the animator artist to reach and explore constantly growing heights in animated creative expression. Using 2D animation the workshop will also introduce the artist to 3D animation in storytelling. It will show the participant through development of short narratives how this animation moves from hand drawn, stop motion, pixilation, and other techniques of creating special effects under the camera to achieve their imaginative story. Students will work in the same computer labs that generated such recent animated hit films as Monster House and 9. The enrollment in this workshop is limited so early enrollment is required. Preference is given to those participants who have taken the Animation Workshop.
