"Thank you for having this program. There are so few available. The staff was amazing and very caring. They went above expectations when it came to individual needs... " br>- George Washington University - Musical Theater parent
"Without USPA and all of their help, I really don't believe that I would have been accepted into The Tisch School of the Arts at NYU (my first choice college)." br>- Alex Roesler
"It was an amazing experience. I learned a lot about the college theatre audition process. And it made me less nervous for them. I applied for 9 colleges and had to audition for all of them, but the workshop prepared me mentally and physically." br> - Anna (College Audition Boot Camp Student)
Prior to coming to Relativity/LA Center Studios, Doug Ward worked as a Character Layout artist and Animation Timer for Fox's King of the Hill. He also spent six years in the interactive industry, as an animator, director, writer, and eventually producer. Among his credits he created, designed, co-wrote, and animated The Wacky World of Miniature Golf, a compact disc interactive game he created, co-wrote, directed and animated for Phillips Electronics. He has won numerous awards for his independent animated films, and is currently in production on another project. His experience as the leader of the now successful Animation Camp of the Relativity/LA Center Studios Arts Camp has made him a faculty member that campers remember for a long time.
Animation is becoming more and more a part of the mainstream of our daily life. The Animation Camp offers the student an intensive introduction into story telling, creation, and production of the traditional animation process. Participants will learn principles and techniques of animation. The very first day of the workshop everyone will complete 3 animation exercises as a prelude to the learning experience of pre-production, production, and completion of a short animated film of their own design. Projects will screen on Friday during the work in progress certificate ceremony. The first of its kind at any major University, participants will be immersed in animation and creative fun from morning till night and leave the workshop with a greater appreciation of animation while feeling like a professional animator. And the best thing about it is that you don't have to be an artist to be an animator.
Taught by Doug Ward within an active working Hollywood studio, the animation camp offers the participant the opportunity of doing several short animated projects within the one week that focus on story telling. The final screening of the projects to an audience is always a crowd pleaser and proves to be one of our most successful and amazing works-in-progress as family and friends laugh at the humor and walk away amazed at how much was accomplished in terms of animated characters and stories within the animation week. The best thing about this workshop is that you don't have to know how to draw to succeed in the animation process.
