"Thank you for having this program. There are so few available. The staff was amazing and very caring. They went above expectations when it came to individual needs... " br>- George Washington University - Musical Theater parent
"Without USPA and all of their help, I really don't believe that I would have been accepted into The Tisch School of the Arts at NYU (my first choice college)." br>- Alex Roesler
"It was an amazing experience. I learned a lot about the college theatre audition process. And it made me less nervous for them. I applied for 9 colleges and had to audition for all of them, but the workshop prepared me mentally and physically." br> - Anna (College Audition Boot Camp Student)
Currently performing with On The Fly Productions, Phillip Wainwright began his career as a street dancer, choreographing for two Hip Hop teams and a show choir through High School. After attending Hip Hop intensives in Los Angeles, Phillip studied classical dance as a minor at Texas Tech University. While reigning a 3 year residency as Director of 'Dancer's With Soul,' The Texas Tech Hip Hop Team, Phillip studied Capoiera among other martial arts, and choreographed for 3 Platinum winning competition teams. Since college, some of Wainwright's credits have included performances for The Woodruff High Arts Center in Atlanta, NBA halftime shows, the Royal Family of Bahrain, managing the World of Dance competition in Dallas, Texas, and winning both World and National Championships with the Go Dance West Coast Swing Team. Most recently, Wainwright has been guest choreographer and performer for The American College Dance Association, Ballet Lubbock's 'Percussion Pointe', and Spector Dance Company in Monterey, as well as making televised appearances on shows like America's Got Talent and FakeOff. Currently, with titles like Director of Hip Hop for US Performing Arts in Malibu, California, Wainwright looks to utilize his experiences to create story through the mediums of urban arts and movement while continuing to learn.
This Hip Hop Dance Intensive is led by award-winning choreographer and World West Coast Swing Champion, Phillip "Kid Fury" Wainwright. He will be joined by cutting-edge LA and Monster's of Hip Hop choreographers who will challenge dancers to take their dance to the next level. It is an opportunity to learn hip hop styles, understand current hip hop concepts and techniques, and learn to pick up choreography at an accelerated pace similar to the "real world" of dance performance. The week ends in a work in progress showing off student's accomplishments and prowess gained from professional instructors. Previous instructors have included, Dave Scott, The Jabbawockeez, dancers with Janet Jackson, Choreographer's for the Latin Hip Hop Awards and more. This is the Intensive to learn how to not only make it as a Hip Hop Dancer, but to make a name for ones-self and develop individual style as a serious contender.
No auditions are required prior to acceptance and enrollment. This workshop is geared towards all levels of dancers.
