Program Director: Stephen Brotebeck Faculty: Theater Camp DetailsThis premiere Theater Camp provides intensive training for the young actor. Various approaches to the craft of acting will incite the creative imagination of each participant while introducing them to new forms of creative theater through improvisation, movement, and theater games. Daily workshops will explore performance techniques in comedy, voice and diction, improvisation, physical humor, line interpretation, rhythm and timing, movement, and stage combat. Students will also work on other essential components of acting such as character development and interpretation, scene study, the basics of Shakespeare, and monologue preparation.This theater program will culminate in a final "work in progress" performance demonstration for family and friends.
Past Directors and FacultyStephen BrotebeckProgram Director Stephen Brotebeck is currently an M.F.A. candidate in the Directing for the Musical Theatre Stage program at The Pennsylvania State University headed by Susan H. Schulman. At Penn State, Stephen has directed and choreographed Altar Boyz, Grey Gardens, Steel Magnolias and will be directing and choreographing Kiss Me, Kate for Penn State Centre Stage in the fall of 2011. He made his NYC choreographic debut with Brotography, and has also directed the NYC premieres of Scenes from a Balcony and Anonymous Lives by Chris Wade. His theatrical choreography credits include regional productions of All Shook Up, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, State Fair, Anything Goes, South Pacific, and Honk. Stephen directed and choreographed the BC/EFA benefit in Toronto featuring the National Tours of Pippin and Wicked. Other ventures include A Crystal Yuletide Jubilee, Holiday Splendor, That's Dancin' and The Crystal Follies for Crystal Cruises. Stephen is the Creative Director and Co-Founder of Broadway Bodies, a dance and fitness company that is based in NYC. His performance credits include the 2006-07 Revival of Pippin (National Tour and Goodspeed), West Side Story (European Tour) and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Stephen has also performed for Holland America Line and Crystal Cruises. He is a BFA graduate of the Western Michigan University Musical Theatre Program and is a member of AEA, AGVA and an associate member of SDC. Susan DerryFaculty Susan Derry, Kennedy Center credits include: Ragtime, Mame with Christine Baranski and the Broadway Eisenhower Theater re-opening. On Broadway she appeared in Wonderful Town, and Regionally played Desdemona in Othello, Meg in Crimes of the Heart, Eliza in My Fair Lady, Gwendolyn in The Importance of Being Ernest, Betty Haynes in White Christmas, Agnes in I do! I do!, Nora in Nora, Fiona in Brigadoon, Maria in West Side Story, Mary Stuart in Mary Stuart and Christine in Phantom of the Opera in Germany. Ms. Derry has been a guest soloist with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Northwestern University and the Manhattan School of Music.
