For the past eight years the University of Connecticut has been named the top public institution in New England. This picturesque university with its beautiful buildings and country setting is also the center for artistic excellence in musical performance, teaching, and scholarship. Located within easy traveling distance of both New York City and Boston it draws upon the culture of both cities for the soul of its arts training.
String Players Camp is a chance for the budding string player to kick their playing up a few notches. We offer the time, the methods, the inspiration and the place to prepare students for the next level. Master teachers supervise daily practice sessions as well as private lessons and coaching. Classes in chamber music and practical musicianship are integrated into the learning environment while emphasizing the joy of accomplishment and personal achievement. Special guest artists and performances will round out the week. The camp concludes with a concert for family and friends in University of Connecticut's von der Mehden Recital Hall.
The camp is open to high school students with at least two years of private instruction in violin, viola, cello or bass. Applicants who would like to be considered for scholarships must submit a recording of two contrasting pieces of their choice by March 15th to:

Kangho Lee, Program Director Cellist Kangho Lee has been a sought-after soloist and chamber musician worldwide since his orchestral debut with the Seoul Philharmonic at the age of twelve. He has performed with leading orchestras such as the KBS (Korean Broadcast Service) Symphony, the Korean Symphony, the Euro-Asia Symphony, the Sofia National Academy Orchestra and the Halle Philharmonic. He has given recitals in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Seoul, Paris, Milan, Rome, Lyon and for the United Nations in Geneva. As a highly respected pedagogue, Dr. Lee has presented master classes at the University of Texas - Austin, the University of Iowa, Philadelphia Biblical University, the University of Delaware, the University of New Mexico, the University of Missouri - Kansas City, Miami University of Ohio and the University of Ulsan in Korea.
Theodore Arm, Program Director Theodore Arm is a favorite with summer chamber music festival audiences. He has been a regular featured artist at Chamber Music Northwest in Portland, Oregon, the Sarasota Music Festival, the American String Project in Seattle, Music from Angel Fire, New Mexico and has taught and performed at the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School in Blue Hill, Maine and at the 2006 Killington Music Festival. Mr. Arm has taken part in performances and chamber music coaching at the Moon Beach Festival in Okinawa and Tokyo, Japan. He has recorded for RCA, Delos, Musical Heritage Society and ECM. Mr. Arm is a Professor of Violin at the University of Connecticut. He holds a Doctorate in Performance from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Christine Dethier and Joseph Fuchs.
